You can also take advantage of the day to discover what aschool was like in days gone by, stroll through the Jardin de Curé or the Jardin des Simples to discover medicinal plants, or have a picnic with the children in the heart of the museum.
The water tower at the foot of the dike in Sainte-Marie-du-Lac offers a unique view of Lac du Der. Book in advance for guided tours on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The Village Musée du Der isn’t just a museum. Outdoors, themed gardens will tantalize your senses with hundreds of medicinal plants, as well as an insect garden where you can learn to observe the little creatures that live in plantations, and a kitchen garden of ancient vegetables…
Director, Village-Musée
“Lac du Der has a soul, and it’s here that visitors feel it most as they discover this church and its buildings rescued from the waters, and the incredible story of the creation of this dam-reservoir. But the ecomuseum isn’t just about history, it’s also about discovering the great richness of our Champagne bocage”.
“We invite children to discover the whole site through a treasure hunt that takes them, accompanied by their parents who learn just as much, through the various buildings and educational gardens (vegetable garden, garden of the simple, arboretum hedge, …)”.
“The Village-Musée du Der doesn’t just display relics; it also organizes activities for groups (nature activities, themed hikes) and numerous events around nature and the Sandhill Crane, gastronomic and country festivals of yesteryear or old trades.”
